OUR GAMES
Gentilly Games was named after the neighborhood of Gentilly in New Orleans. The neighborhood stretches south from Lake Pontchartrain to the neighborhood of St. Roch. It is bounded on the east side by Peoples Avenue canal, a mostly covered canal, and on the west side by the London Avenue canal.
Gentilly has been a predominantly middle class and racially diverse area for many years. I grew up just south of the lake near Franklin Avenue. We were able to walk just up the block to see the two neighborhood parades of Hercules and Pandora that passed on Franklin Avenue. Summers were spent at the lake and at Pontchartrain Beach. That was a local amusement park that shutdown in the 1980s. It was a classic midway style park set aside a sand beach.
Gentilly Games exists to bring a small slice of New Orleans to the rest of the world through games.
