The Second Game

I had an idea for a second New Orleans themed game, but I wasn’t sure how to implement the game without it becoming an immense and expensive game. As you may know the more “parts” a game has the more expensive it becomes. As I had originally conceived this game it was going to have a game board that was around 24 inches wide and tall. This would be larger than a Monopoly or Scrabble board. Then there would be the pieces used in the game with somewhere around 40 to 60 total. This was getting expensive, so I put it on the back burner of my mind and kept my focus on Geaux Parade. Then I went to ProtoATL.

Progress at ProtoATL and Beyond

Over the weekend of May 16 – 19 2024, I travelled to Atlanta Georgia to take part in ProtoATL, a game design convention. The event began Thursday evening and continued through Sunday afternoon. I brought along 3 copies of the second beta version of Geaux Parade to playtest. Over the four days of the event, I was able to play test the game around 20 times. I also play tested many games for several different game developers.

Growing up in New Orleans is unique to say the least. It isn’t until you live somewhere else that you realize how special it is. While growing up on Mexico Street in Gentilly I took many things for granted. Whether it was the amazing food, or the unique celebrations New Orleans was in my blood. No matter where in the world I travelled I always compared it to home, and it usually fell well short.
